Read Acts 6
Jennifer Huffman
Acts 4:13
And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people.
Acts 6:10
But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.
Every time I read the story of Stephen, I am awed by his peace amid turmoil and false accusations. Steady is the word I would use to describe him and how he conducted his life, which leads me to wonder how he lived a life of such consistent, unwavering faith.
The scripture says he was full of the Holy Spirit. But what does that mean?
When something is full, it has no room for anything else. Things cannot be added, and there is no empty space. It is not lacking but is complete.
When I think about how this translates into being full of the Holy Spirit, I imagine Go flooding into my heart and mind, washing out everything not of Him. Then, He fills me up and leaves me more complete and more satisfied than before He came in. In this place of nothing lacking, we are full of faith, grace, power, and wisdom. Like Stephen, we can live a life of peace in the middle of turmoil and false accusations.
Where are you lacking faith and grace? Where do you need more power and wisdom? Ask for a filling of the Holy Spirit and let Him bring the peace and steadiness to your life that you have been longing for.
Prayer Prompt:
Holy Spirit, in the places that I am lacking, in the places where things other than You have rooted themselves in me, come in like a flood, wash me clean, and fill me to overflowing with You so much so that there are no empty spaces left in my heart and mind. Through Your filling, help me to live a life of peace, steadiness, and consistent, unwavering faith.
