I was reading something the other day when these words jumped off the page: “Human life is tailor-made for God.” These words moved something in my spirit, so I decided to go deeper. I decided to start at the beginning, Genesis. God said in Genesis 1:26, “Let us make mankind in our own image.” It also says the relationship between God and man was such that they walked together in the cool of the day. Wow, what a relationship! This relationship created a space where the man and woman were naked and felt no shame. Can you imagine a world without fear, guilt, and shame; mankind living as God intended, tailor-made for relationship with Him?
Then, the relationship was broken by sin.
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:22
Jesus Christ came to repair that broken relationship. His gospel (good news) was, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand,” or change your mind, living in God’s Kingdom (relationship) is now an option for you if you choose. Matthew 4:17
I believe that God is calling us to life (relationship) in His Kingdom. Now, not later. Jesus further explains what it means to live in the Kingdom in the Sermon on the Mount. He ends the sermon by stating that if you choose to live in the Kingdom, you will be like a man who built his house on the rock. But if you choose not to live in the Kingdom, you will be like a man who built his house on the sand. He goes on to say that the (metaphorical) wind, rain, and waves came, and the house on the rock stood while the house on the sand collapsed.
Do you want to be the one who builds their house on the rock? You can, you know. Jesus Christ has paved the way. He has explained what that looks like, and He concludes the explanation by saying that if you choose to live like you were “tailor-made” in the Kingdom, then you will stand.
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10
Contemplative prayer was described by a peasant farmer. When asked what he did during his long prayer time, he said, “Nothing, I look at Him, and He looks at me, and we are both happy.”
Take some time to spend with God in contemplative prayer.
Prayer
As you sit in God’s Presence, ask Him, “What area or areas in my life are You inviting me to move from the sand to the rock?” Ask and then just listen.
