1 Peter 4:8<\/strong> says, \u201cabove all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I want to invite you to ponder for a moment. Pull out your notes or journal and take a second to answer this question. What does it mean to \u201clove each other deeply\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Might loving each other deeply be through honor, humility, and discipline? Oof. They\u2019re words that invoke your way over mine, and sacrifice over preference. To be honest, when I hear discipline, I sometimes twitch. And I don\u2019t mean the \u201cpunishment for doing wrong\u201d discipline, but rather the \u201ctrain yourself to do something in a controlled and habitual way\u201d discipline. Can I blow your mind? \u201cDiscipline\u201d and \u201cdisciple\u201d come from the same root word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the last several months, God has been stirring something deep inside me, and it\u2019s something I want to invite you to join. He\u2019s been inviting me to adopt those three words: honor, humility, and discipline. He\u2019s been inviting me to create a culture of honor, both within myself and among my peers, to walk in humility in my faith, family, and work, and to become a student of discipline, allowing myself to be formed by the things of God. Isn\u2019t that a beautiful picture of love? It\u2019s the picture of advocating for the eternal good of another by walking in honor and humility. It\u2019s walking in discipline when it\u2019s not always easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n By doing this fast, you\u2019re already participating in discipline!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Listening Prompt<\/strong>
Spend time putting those three words before God: honor, humility, and discipline. Pray, \u201cLord, I want to be formed by You, creating in me a clean heart that is bound by love, and seeks to show the love of Christ to my family, to my friends, and to my work. How can I adopt honor, humility, and discipline into my life this year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
